The annual meeting of the European Maritime Pilots’ Association (EMPA), which was recently held in Krakow, Poland, brought together pilotage corporations from across Europe to discuss the main operational, technical, and human challenges currently facing the field of maritime pilotage.
In this context, Hiades Business Patterns (AMURA), a technology company based in the Canary Islands, presented the latest advances in its digital solution, which was developed specifically to meet the needs of port pilots — professionals who risk their lives every day to ensure the safety and efficiency of ships entering and leaving European ports.
Developed in close collaboration with EMPA representatives, the tool enables pilots to report non-compliance with safety standards in real time, as well as record ship defects and other incidents. This initiative strengthens prevention mechanisms and improves communication between professionals and port authorities, setting a technological benchmark in the field of pilotage.
The latest update, version 1.4.0, incorporates two features that are particularly valued by users:
Automatic loading of ships and events.
The creation of reports and the automatic sending of incidents to private entities or public administrations avoids duplication and improves the traceability of reports.
The Hiades Business Patterns (AMURA) team travelled from the Canary Islands to Poland to present these improvements directly to end users in an exercise in active listening and continuous learning, and to foster closer relationships with those who play a key role in maritime safety on a daily basis.
This work represents not only a commitment to digital transformation, but also explicit recognition of and support for the work of European pilots — true heroes in the world of day-to-day maritime transport.
It was a key event for international cooperation, organised by Polish pilots.
